Audible Read- Objects of My Affection

Lucy and Marva are now entangled in a relationship all revolving around stuff, and they couldn’t be more different. Lucy is broke and needs this job as a home organizer to make it back on her feet. Her boyfriend forced her to choose him or her son, and now her son is in rehab. So when the opportunity to help organize Marva’s home comes about she has to take on the challenge. What a challenge it will be too. The doors to the house barely open and there is hardly any room to walk. What Lucy can’t understand is how someone could let it get this bad. Stranger still is how Marva’s son has hired her to do this job with such a specific deadline. Being one who has always been able to just let anything go it’s hard for her to understand why someone would have so much.

Lucy comes up with a system and a plan and knows it will work. Except she forgot to factor in the fact that Marva doesn’t want to get rid of all of her things, is barely willing to work on the sorting process, but has insisted on being involved in every step. She finds herself suddenly trying to really understand Marva, and in doing so begins to see that Marva might just be doing the same to her.

Will the two of them come to an agreement? Will they both begin to learn what is really the object of their affection? Will they both learn to take the risks needed to continue to live even when life seems out of control? The book Objects of My Affection was a great book to listen to. While the story was entertaining and filled with lots of twists and turns it also was eye opening into what we find important. Being someone who is able to get rid of things usually it helped me rethink why people can’t always do that. I gave the book 4 stars on Goodreads.
